Join us on Friday 24th February at 7pm for an evening of star gazing with astronomer Jenny Dockett.
Thanks to a grant from the prestigious Royal Society to celebrate notable scientists from our area we’ll be running some fun family and school activities from April but for now we’ll take advantage of the dark nights to get us in the mood.
Friday evening will celebrate the life and work of Mary Somerville - a mathematician and physicist as well as a notable geologist and astronomer. Mary was one of the first women to be made a member of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1835.
If conditions are clear we will take a short walk from the museum to look at the sky so please wrap up warm and wear shoes suitable for walking on rough ground. It could be handy to bring a torch too. If the weather is not suitable for stargazing there will be short talk on stargazing and how to read a star map along with an Astronomy craft activity.
Free activity suitable for 7 years and up
